DIXON & JIMI JULES

Dixon

Few artists walk the line between past and future as well as Dixon.
As a DJ, he cuts a striking figure behind decks, rising from Berlin
beginnings among the original pioneers of electronic music. Over
a career, he has evolved his sound into something visionary,
running renowned record label Innervisions with Frank
Wiedemann and Kristian Rädle of Ame. His ear for the perfect
mix eventually brought down Resident Advisor’s Top DJs Poll,
after taking out first place for its last four years running. However,
Dixon’s ambition has driven a calling into wider fields of fashion
and technology, expanding what it means to be a contemporary
innovator.Early on, a young Dixon was already remixing for the
likes of Femi Kuti with his version of “Victim of Life” in 2000. His
reputation as a remixer sprung out of edits hidden within his sets,
adjusting tracks to give his own mixing an edge. Dixon’s edits were
for himself, but became infamously in demand for friends and
high profile artists, with takes on The XX’s “Tides” and
Disclosure’s “Boiling” in 2013. Major recognition came in 2017
when Depeche Mode asked him to remix their iconic anthem
“Cover Me”, and the following year reworking LCD Soundsystem’s
“i used to”. Recently, Dixon’s 2019 interpretation of Kelsey Lu’s
“Why Knock For You” revealed his genre-bending take on today’s
dance music. However, his holistic interest in nightlife culture
meant pushing the clubbing envelope further. Using music to melt
through other art forms, Dixon’s strength is found in his
transcendent dancefloor moments. Echoed in a flawless aesthetic,
his performances feel both safe and unpredictable, with this
singular sense of balance seeing his global appeal widen year after
year.

JIMI JULES (INNERVISIONS)

Set on being a musician from a very young age, the Zürich-based DJ and multi-instrumentalist Jimi Jules has dedicated his career to shaking up the electronic music scene for nearly a decade. Following the completion of Jimi’s master’s degree in music combined with his Caribbean heritage, having grown up with a family of voodoo-sorcerers, jazz musicians and classical composers, Jules is recognised for his collaborative and multidisciplinary approach. The result? Carefully crafted productions with a deep understanding of arrangements and musical balance. Well-known for elegantly playing and singing along to his own tracks, Jimi Jules takes the House and Techno scene on a journey in search for fresh sounds.

As a producer, Jimi Jules is unassuming. Most notably on his latest album “+”, on Innervisions, the DJ effortlessly blends nocturnal novels and dance floor romance with his idea of the future of electronic music – collaborating with renowned artists like Dixon or Trevor Jackson to push the boundaries even further. Having previously released music on notable labels such as Watergate, Zukunft, Rumpelmuisik, most recently Jules was awarded a silver disk marking 200,000 sold copies of the track “Pushin On” released on Defected.

It’s hard to pin Jimi Jules’ DJ sets down to just one genre. Whilst playing (to a large extent) his own craft, Jules takes both his sound and listeners on a personal journey – from globally acclaimed stages to the most intimate dance floors of New York and Paris. With one goal in mind, Jimi’s one wish is to see people dance and share an energy of togetherness.
